About SFB 514

Aim of the project is to combine optical sensors with actuators to set up a multi-sensor measurement robot for industrial inspection.

Active exploration concepts are used to perform measurement tasks dependent solely on a database of CAD descriptions.

The software is based on autonomous agents, implemented using CORBA, to achieve robustness and allow the system to adapt to different measurement tasks.

Another goal is to extent the field of operation to defects not yet addressed by conventional inspection systems like color, gloss et cetera.

Seven institutes of the University of Stuttgart are involved in the project, including mechanical and optical engineering, photogrammetry and computer science.

This project is supported by the German Research Foundation under research grant DFG-SFB514.
