Texture-Mapped Visualization of Urban Scenes

The main objective of this project is the generation of realistic 3D virtual environments.

Starting point are building models, that are automatically reconstructed from measurements of a plane-hosted laser rangefinder (please contact Claus Brenner for details).

In order to achieve a more realistic visualization, digital images of the building facades can be rectified and mapped onto the reconstructed models.

The texture mapped models can be exported to VRML for interactive display. In addition, there is a connection to 3D Studio Max to generate animations.

Virtual Flight from space to Stuttgart (MPEG, 7 MB)

This flight was generated based on the automatic approach to generate 3D-city models. The facade texture was mapped manually
